Create a Collision Event from a Recalled Video

If a collision is not automatically detected by Motive, authorized users can manually create a collision event directly from a recalled video. This ensures the incident follows the same workflows as automatically detected collisions, including alerts, reports, and analytics.

Overview

Creating a collision event from a recalled video gives fleets a way to capture incidents that weren't automatically flagged, without losing the reporting and investigation workflows that come with a standard collision event. It helps fleets:

• Capture undetected incidents by converting recalled footage into a collision event so it appears in Safety > Events alongside automatically detected collisions.
• Maintain accurate collision records with built-in deduplication checks that prevent duplicate events from being created for the same incident.
• Trigger standard collision workflows including alerts, Enhanced Collision Reports, and insurer integrations, using the same process as automatically detected collisions.
• Control access precisely through a dedicated Create Collision from video permission that is separate from video recall permissions.

Before you start

Creating a collision event from a recalled video requires the Create Collision from video permission. This permission is separate from Request Videos and View Requested Videos and is not enabled by default for any role due to the sensitivity of creating collision events. Contact your fleet admin to enable it through Admin > Roles & Permissions. 

Create a collision event from a recalled video

1. Go to Safety > Requests.
2. Locate the requested video.
3. Click the video thumbnail to open the Requested Video details page.
4. Click Create Collision.
5. Select the Time of impact using the video scrubber.
6. Review the event details and click Create Event.

When the collision event is created:

• Event details including vehicle, driver (when available), location, and speed are automatically populated.
• The event severity is set to Critical by default.
• The collision appears in Safety > Events with a backlink to the recalled video.
• Standard collision workflows apply, including alerts and Enhanced Collision Reports.

How deduplication works

Alerts and reports

After a collision event is created:

• Standard collision alerts - email, SMS, or push notifications -  can be triggered based on the alert settings configured during the Time of impact selection.
• The Enhanced Collision Report can be generated using the same customizable sections available for automatically detected collisions.
• For fleets with insurer integrations through the Marketplace, collision alerts may also include insurer recipients with the Enhanced Collision Report attached.
